Dr. Chad Lundstrom presents ChiroFAQsQ - What is Chiropractic? A - Chiropractic is a healthcare specialty centered around the concept that good health and an active lifestyle requires a healthy spine and nervous system. It involves identifying locations where the spine may cause irritation to the nerves and adjusting vertebrae to minimize or eliminate that irritation. Chiropractic care is a natural method of enhancing your health by keeping your spine in alignment as well as restoring proper function to your nervous system. Q - Is Chiropractic only for back and neck pain? A - No, Chiropractic is not limited to back and neck problems, it also includes the treatment of hip, knee, and ankle injuries, as well as upper extremity conditions such as carpel tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff injuries, tennis elbow, and abnormal foot mechanics. Q - How can chiropractic help me? A - Chiropractic keeps your muscles, nerves and joints functioning the way they were intended so your body can heal itself naturally from illness and injury. Chiropractic can relieve your pain, restore joint movement, reduce susceptibility to injury, and slow down or prevent degenerative diseases such as arthritis and disc inflamation. Q - Are patients really satisfied with chiropractic care? A - Yes! A Gallup poll reported that 9 out of 10 patients found chiropractic care effective. Q - What do chiropractors treat? A - Chiropractors do not "treat" any specific symptom or condition. Instead we focus on identifying and correcting the "source" or "cause" of a problem rather than just reacting to and trying to eliminate symptoms. As a result, chiropractic care helps the body heal itself from a wide range of conditions. You can enjoy long term relief from sciatica, neck pain, back pain, arthritis, headaches, and much more! Q - How might chiropractic care benefit my health? A - Chiropractic adjustments help to restore normal joint function and mobility, as well as improving function of the nervous system. Abnormal joint function will lead to early uneven wear and tear on spinal discs and some arthritic conditions. Your nervous system controls all functions of the body including, but not limited to:
Q - Will I need to see a chiropractor for the rest of my life once I start treatment? A - No. For injuries and acute conditions, you will likely obtain relief in just a few visits. If the problem has been there for a long period of time, you may not notice a lot of relief from your first adjustment, but will likely experience steady improvement after several adjustments. It is up to you to decide how long you would like to benefit from chiropractic care. For chronic conditions, generally people find that preventative care will keep their back pain-free. Q - Is chiropractic care safe? A - Absolutely! Your care is provided by a licensed practitioner using time-tested natural methods. Risk factors are identified before any type of care is administered. Research shows that patient risk is considerably lower for chiropractic care when compared to medical care, due to the risks associated with prescription drugs, surgery, and similar invasive treatments. One proof of its safety record is the fact that medical doctors' malpractice insurance premiums are, on average, ten to fourteen times higher than those for chiropractors. Q - Are chiropractic adjustments painful? A - Most patients report that even when they come into our office with severe pain, spinal adjustments are not painful. Many patients report that they can feel the pressure being lifted from their spine following an adjustment and often experience immediate relief from pain. Some patients report a feeling of total relaxation after an adjustment. Your first time, you may get a slight increase in stiffness or soreness, similar to starting a work-out program. Q - Is there a connection between spinal health and migraine headaches? A - A recent study found that the frequency of migraine headaches were reduced by 90% with spinal adjustments. Q - Can I get whiplash by snowboarding? A - Falls while snowboarding can easily result in whiplash. A collision of only 6 mph can result in over 6 G's of force! That is equivalent to your head suddenly weighing close to 80 pounds! Obviously, neck injury can happen very easily at typical snowboarding speeds. Q - How do I know if I have whiplash; can I wait to see a doctor?? A - Serious signs of whiplash following a collision include:
